Origin :China. Introduced in Japan in 1736.
CHARACTERISTICS : Green glaucous culms covered with pruina when they emerge from the ground. Delicate and light leaves. Remarkably graceful and graphic in its shape.

Propagation : Clump transplantation.
Needs : Thrives in healthy, good quality soil. If not provided with the right soil conditions its size can become stunted especially if the Spring time is cold.
Uses : Solitary clump, grove, forest. Alimentary use. The culms are sought-after because of their exceptional mechanical properties.
Maintenance : Every two years in Winter, thin out the dry culms aged five and more years.
